"...Because Every Animal Deserves Another Chance!"
Welcome to our "Wall-Less" Rescue!
The Rescue Team
Our Mission...
Updated May 2nd, 2008

ACAR has been operating as a No-Kill "Wall-less" Rescue for over 5 years.
Using only foster homes and unceasing hard work by our volunteers and board members, we rescue and place more animals than we did as a physical shelter, while the animals are cared for in homes instead of in cages. We are proud to have continued serving our area for 30 years. Despite our efforts, the homeless animal situation has only marginally improved - the only effective solution is spaying and neutering pets. We can't build enough no-kill shelters to house them all, any more than you can stop a leaky roof by putting out more pails. The sad fact is that there are more cats and dogs than there are loving homes. We urge you to support organizations like ACAR which actively spay and neuter companion animals.

Kittens, kittens, kittens…
Now that spring is finally here, along with the wonderful weather comes many litters of homeless kittens. We have a large selection of tigers, black & whites and calicos that will be up for adoption starting this Saturday & for weeks to come as they become age appropriate for adoption. All kittens are vet checked, wormed, de-flead & up to date on age appropriate shots.
If you are looking to share your home with a new family member, please stop by the adoption center. Along with the kittens we have many older felines and teenager cats who will be meeting and greeting prospective new parents on Saturday 10AM-2PM.
***We are in very much need of Scoopable and Cedarific Cat Litter, Kitten/Cat Food-Canned and dry. Any & all donations are appreciated & are tax deductible. Thank you!***

Found "Morris"
Morris (a.k.a. unknown) came in to the rescue Saturday March 8th after spending the night on a family's deck crying "I'm lost, cold and hungry." Morris is hoping that someone in the Wells area near The Little Yellow Store is looking for this good looking orange and white boy. Morris was wearing a pair of collars; one is a leather collar and the other a standard issue flea collar. Please help assist Morris in his quest to return to his family. North Berwick residence in the Quarry Road area may also have information leading to Morris' safe return home. Roaming cats have a range of about one mile in any direction from their point of origin, so this guy may have venture out of North Berwick/Wells or surrounding areas.

These felines are not for adoption
We received a frantic call from a homeowner in Lebanon who said that several young cats had been abandon on their property, one being a mother. The homeowner was desperate for help and called us. They talked to Julie, one of our volunteers about getting help with vetting, vaccinating and spay/neutering this budding feral colony. So far with the help of the homeowner, volunteers from Lebanon and ACAR, a large percentage of this group of abandoned cats have been vetted, vaccinated, treated, spayed/neutered and are being readied for re-release.
Like this homeowner, if you see a stray, abandoned animal, take an active role in ending the animal’s suffering by contacting your Animal Control Officer or local animal shelter.
Please help by becoming part of the solution.

Please have your pets Spay/Neutered!
Many kittens, puppies, rabbits, cats & dogs are put to death because there simply are not enough homes available. As a NO Kill organization, we find this unacceptable! The solution is so simple-spay or neuter your pet. Spaying and neutering will help make your dog or cat a healthier, happier pet. Low Cost Spay Neuter Certificates are available through The Friends of Animals, 1-800-321 PETS.
The Spay ME Program
To qualify for the program, pet owners must be eligible to participate in at least one of several government programs: food stamps, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Supplemental Security Income, Social Security Disability or Medicaid. Eligible applicants must also provide a $10 co-payment for cats and a $20 co-payment for dogs.
Starting this year, Mainers can check a box on income tax forms to contribute to the fund. For more information, call the "Help Fix ME" toll-free number: (800) 367-1317 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Protest for Bandit Bandit, a rat terrier dog, was maliciously killed in Arundel, ME in unfounded retaliation against Bandit's owner. The person that did this allegedly broke into the pick-up truck where Bandit was sleeping, grabbed the small dog, slit his throat, further mutilated him and left him to die. Bandit was a devoted companion to his owners in Kennebunk.
Case Updates Michael Morin of Biddeford will spend eight months behind bars for killing a dog named Bandit outside a bar in Arundel last summer.
Update:
Morin, 47, pled guilty Thursday to one count of aggravated cruelty to animals - a Class C felony. A separate charge of burglary of a motor vehicle - a Class D misdemeanor - was dropped.
In addition to the jail time, Morin was ordered by the court to pay the dog's owner, Ron Pelletier of Kennebunk, restitution in the amount of $875. Morin will also be on probation for two years following the completion of his sentence.
In a written statement released Thursday, Gonzalez thanked those who turned out to support Pelletier and protest Bandit's death.
She also said, "Please remember that there are many animals out there still that need us in one way or another. Please remember to support your local (animal) organizations by volunteering, donating whatever you can, whether it be money or supplies, and never be afraid to speak up."
